Electrometers

An electrometer is a device that is used to detect and measure the charge of electricity. There are many to choose from including Electrostatic voltmeter. They are particularly adept at measuring significantly small levels of charge. With simple electrometers, there is no need to connect any part of the electrometer to an electrical component. It is simply measuring the charge of electricity. For instance for a simple test using a simple electrometer, take some hot clothes out of a clothes dryer.

When you pull the clothes apart, they often make a crackly noise indicating static electricity. If you have a simple electrometer nearby, the device will measure the charge coming from the clothes and will move the DPM reading on the electrometer’s display digital display depending on how much electricity is discharged and measured.
